India is the world's second largest smartphone market after China. Previously, India's production of new iPhone was usually six to nine months behind China's.

According to the technology media TechCrunch, Foxconn, an Apple co manufacturer, is producing the iPhone 14 at the Sriperumbudur factory near Chennai, India, and it is expected that the iPhone 14 will be sold locally later this year. Apple said in an email statement, "We are very happy to be able to produce the iPhone 14 in India."

Bloomberg News previously cited information from insiders that Apple has been working with suppliers to improve production capacity in India and narrow the time gap between India and China to produce new iPhone. Foxconn, the main iPhone manufacturer, has studied how to ship parts from China to India and assemble the iPhone 14 in a factory near Chennai, India.

In addition, Tata Group, a leading Indian enterprise, is negotiating with Wistron Zitong, a supplier in Taiwan, China, to establish a joint venture to assemble Apple's iPhone in India.

In addition, according to a report by JPMorgan Chase, from the end of 2022, Apple will transfer about 5% of the production of iPhone 14 to India, and let India produce about a quarter of its iPhones by 2025.

Analysts of JPMorgan Chase also said that by 2025, about 25% of Apple products, including Mac, iPad, Apple Watch and AirPods, will be produced outside China, compared with 5% at present.

Despite its small market share in India, Apple has expanded its investment in India in the past five years. Two years ago, Apple launched an online Apple Store in India, and Apple also publicly said that it was working hard to open its first physical store in India.

Apple produced the iPhone in India for the first time in 2017, namely the iPhone SE. But until this year, Apple had not assembled the latest models locally.

In April this year, Apple announced that it would start manufacturing the iPhone 13 in India, which is the fourth iPhone assembled and produced in India after the production of the iPhone SE in 2017. Previously, some iPhones were assembled by Foxconn in the local factory, while the other part was assembled by Wistron Capital.

Guo Mingxuan, an analyst of Tianfeng International Securities, said on September 1 that the mass production of iPhone 14 in India this year was still about 6 weeks later than that in China, but the gap has narrowed significantly. Therefore, it is reasonable to predict that India and China will be able to produce the new iPhone 15 at the same time next year.

Bloomberg reported earlier that the source said that the first batch of iPhone14 in India may be shipped at the end of October or November.

The Financial Times cited Counterpoint Research, a research institution, as saying that after Apple released its new iPhone 14, user demand was strong. It was expected that the global average iPhone price would reach a new high of $892 in the third quarter of September, and the price would rise again to $944 in the fourth quarter of December.

This is not the first time that India has produced iPhones. It is reported that India has developed iPhone SE, iPhone 12/13 and other models. An important reason for choosing to produce in India is that India imposes huge taxes on imported goods, forcing Apple to build factories in India.
