It is reported that Apple will transfer part of its iPhone production to India from the iPhone 14. A new report says that by 2025, the manufacturer may produce 25% of iPhones in India. The mass production progress of iPhone 14 in India this year is still about six weeks later than that in China, but the gap has improved significantly. Therefore, it is reasonable to expect that India and China will be able to produce the new iPhone 15 at the same time next year. Around 2025, the proportion of iPhones manufactured in India will increase to 25%, or about 1/4.

Reuters reports; India iPhone may increase to 25% in 2025

According to JPMorgan analysts quoted by Reuters, due to geopolitical uncertainty and strict epidemic prevention policies, Apple hopes to produce 25% of its iPhones in India by 2025, and the company hopes to transfer some of its iPhone production lines from China.

The report also said that Apple is expected to transfer about 5% of iPhone 14 production to India from the end of 2022. The analysts quoted in the report also estimated that by 2025, Apple may bring about 25% of the production of all products including Mac, iPad, Apple Watch and AirPods outside China. At present, only 5% of apple production comes from outside China.

"Taiwan suppliers such as Hon Hai and Heshuo have played a key role in moving to India. In the medium and long term, we also expect Apple to be qualified as a local manufacturing supplier in India," Reuters reported, citing JPMorgan analysts.

Apple began assembling iPhones in India in 2017. The company currently manufactures iPhones in India through its suppliers Wistron and Foxconn. With the government promoting local manufacturing through production related incentives (PLI) and other plans, and the continuing geopolitical tensions in China, it is reported that Apple plans to transfer most of its iPhone production to India.

Apple has been making diversified changes in the supply chain of iPhone manufacturing, and the proportion of iPhone manufacturing in India will climb to 5% this year. However, some netizens raised doubts about the products made in India. After all, the Vietnam made AirPods had quality control problems before, and it may be necessary to choose the origin when buying iPhones in the future.
