Apple officially adopts the dual OEM scheme, and Foxconn has lost the qualification for exclusive OEM of iPhone 15 Ultra

Recently, it was revealed thatApple has invited two foundry factories, Lexicon and Foxconn, to jointly contract the iPhone 15 Ultra and iPhone 15 Pro models. Apple's move is intended to avoid a sharp decline in the production capacity of the iPhone 14 Pro series caused by Foxconn's exclusive OEM in 2022, which will eventually lead to a long-term shortage of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models. Up to now, it is not known how Apple allocates the specific proportion of the production capacity of the two OEM plants. The probability is that Foxconn still accounts for most of the production capacity, while Lucent will allocate relatively small capacity.

According to the supply chain information, the iPhone 15 basic version will use the same A16 chip as the iPhone 14 Pro series. Only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Ultra will be equipped with TSMC's A17 processor with 3nm technology. In addition,iPhone 15 will be fully equipped with USB-C charging interface and Smart Island. In terms of image, the 48 megapixel camera of the iPhone 14 Pro series will be released to the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, while the periscope telephoto lens will be added to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. It is also possible to cancel physical keys in the whole system, and use the Tapetic Engine vibration module to simulate the touch of physical keys. However, due to the substantial increase in production costs, the price of all iPhone 15 models will rise significantly.

The above is the specific content of Apple's official adoption of the dual OEM scheme. In fact, Apple's intention to do so is to avoid the production capacity problem of this year's 14 series to the greatest extent, but does not know how to allocate it.
