Using A12 Bionic processor

The A12 Bionic has six cores (two high-performance and four storm cores), all of which can be run at once and have been shown as a six core design in benchmark tests such as Geekbench.

In the latest Geekbench 5.2 test, the seventh generation iPad scored 746 on a single core and 1326 on multiple cores in 2019. The new iPad achieved results of 1117 and 2645 in single core and multi-core tests, respectively. As a comparison, the 2020 iPad Pro (A12Z Bionic processor) scored single core 1117 and multi core 4690.

In the Compute Metal graphics test, the iPad 8 scored 5366. Our 2020 iPad Pro has a score of 12021, mainly due to its additional graphics core.

Due to cost and price reasons, the iPad 8 chose the A12 processor. This processor was released many years ago and is not very powerful, but it has a low power consumption and power saving feature, making it very suitable for entry-level devices like the iPad 8.
